SATLANTIS at the Global Innovation Day 2021

SATLANTIS took part in the 10th edition of the Global Innovation Day, celebrated on 3rd November 2021 at BEC – Bilbao Exhibition Centre (Bizkaia, Basque Country), organized by Innobasque – Agencia Vasca de la Innovación – and opening the XXI Week of Science, Technology and Innovation (Semana de la Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación).

SATLANTIS has been selected by Innobasque as one of the six exponents of the leading innovative ecosystem, highlighting the importance of innovation as key to the socio-economic future of the territory.

The company represents an effective New Space example of innovation capability in terms of scientific research and technological development: in particular the creation of ISIM-170, a miniaturized camera for small satellites capable of collecting images of the Earth from Space below one meter in size measuring environmental parameters. The reason behind the innovation is linked to “millions of plastics in the sea that end up in our stomachs, GHG emissions to the atmosphere or lack of control of burning forests, are critical examples of society urgent needs and must be complemented with satellite imagery”, as stated by SATLANTIS Director of Strategy, Ms Eider Ocerin Martínez, during the presentation of the company’s practical case.

The other companies sharing their practical case of innovation during this dedicated Day are: Aquadat (AquaRADAR4 technological innovation on water bottling management efficiency); Dbus (with innovation actions on post-pandemic smart); Fundación Residuo Cero (Rexcatering initiative combating food waste); Mondragon Componentes S.Coop (Kitchen Eye, project on technologically-assisted cooking); and Sidenor (on recycling of refractory waste in the steel sector).

The Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu inaugurated the XXI Science Week and gave the closing remarks of the Global Innovation Day, highlighting the connection of the Basque Country’s innovation impulse with the global innovation process.
