GAINESVILLE, Fla., October 20, 2026 – The University of Florida’s Astraeus Space Institute and the company Satlantis have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in space research, technology and workforce development. The partnership will create opportunities for UF faculty and students to engage with Satlantis’ expertise in optical payloads, satellite missions and control systems while leveraging Astraeus’ new Mission Control Center.
Through the partnership, Astraeus and Satlantis will explore opportunities to connect UF’s academic and research community with industry expertise and capabilities. The collaboration will provide students with opportunities to gain exposure to the technologies, engineering and operations involved in developing and controlling space-based optical payloads and satellite systems. It also builds on Astraeus’ growing capabilities, including its Mission Control Center, as a resource for research, education and engagement with the space industry.
“This new partnership between Astraeus and Satlantis provides exciting opportunities for UF faculty, students and the space industry throughout the state of Florida,” said Rachael D. Seidler, director of the Astraeus Space Institute. “Our faculty and students will benefit from Satlantis’ expertise with optical payloads and satellite controls.”
The partnership also brings Satlantis back to its University of Florida roots. Founded at UF in 2013, Satlantis has since expanded into commercial and federal space markets in the United States. “Satlantis was born at the University of Florida in 2013 as a result of the constant pursuit of innovation and investment in the space industry,” said Aitor Moriñigo, CEO of Satlantis US. “Training the next generation of engineers on the campus where Satlantis became a reality is exactly the investment we’ve been wanting to make.”
